St Lucia holidays are intriguing to those who want to slip away from their everyday world and experience life out on the island. This island country may not be huge – it covers a land area of 617 km2 (238.23 sq mi)  but it is the destination many people call their best holiday ever.

Do you want to be the next to experience the adventure of St Lucia holidays? If so, the following tips will help you get there safely, enjoy the best features of the island, and return refreshed.

Saint Lucia is a volcanic tropical island in the eastern Caribbean, not far from Barbados and Martinique.

A few of the island country’s highlights are a drive-in volcano, Botanical Gardens, rain forests, Pigeon Island National Park, and Sulphur Springs. Its capital is Castries.

St Lucia Holidays – When to Go and How to Get There

If you’re planning on flying to this garden isle, there are several airlines to choose from. Many well known airlines book seats to Saint Lucia,  including American and U.S. Airways. Air Canada also makes the trip at select times of the year.

The dry season (December to May) draws the most visitors. Saint Lucia lends its popularity to its tropical weather, lush scenery and its plentiful beaches and resorts. The wet season is from June thru November.
Most visitors come to Saint Lucia on a cruise ship or ferry. This is an adventurous way to start your St Lucia holidays, and is especially exciting to children and teenagers intrigued by the sea.

If you really want to go all out and start your holidays off with excitement, there are several companies offering private charter on yachts. This is a great way to see the ocean and travel to the island in privacy.

Native folk music is a lively tradition in Saint Lucia. Every May since 1991, Saint Lucia has hosted an internationally distinguished Jazz Festival, which has become their largest celebration of the year. Held in early May at numerous venues throughout the isle, it draws guests and musicians from around the globe.

As is customary in other Caribbean countries, Saint Lucia holds a carnival, however theirs is in mid-July, so as not to compete with neighboring celebrations.

If you are headed out to the island to light the fire on a new romance or reconnect with an old romance, Saint Lucia has a lot to offer. Rent a boat or charter a yacht and head out on the gentle water to relax in the sun. Take a walk along the beach at sunset—yes, just like you read in all those romance novels! Walk through small shops with unique items you will cherish forever, and get dressed up for romantic candlelight dinners at fine restaurants. There are waterfalls to serve as the perfect backdrop for pictures, and you will always find adventure in the mountains or rainforest.

For the best chance of romance, rent a room at one of the smaller inns. There are also top class resorts located on the island, if you want to get pampered and stay in luxury.

St Lucia Holidays for Families

For children that enjoy sand castles, exciting adventures in sailboats, and swimming in an ocean that goes on forever, Saint Lucia is an excellent choice.  Younger children may be happy on the sand, but the older ones will want to head off into the waves or the jungle.  They can learn to surf or take an adrenaline-rushing trip down a zip line through the rainforest treetops. There are even areas to ride ATVs through the sand, which is the dream of many teenagers.

Of course, St Lucia holidays are not all about the kids. Parents will get their chance to relax by comfortable resort fires with a bit of champagne or wine. Or, you may want to get out there and experience the adventure along with the younger ones.

There are some islands that you visit to relax by the water and get lots of rest, but Saint Lucia is not one of those isles. This is an exciting place that will keep you on the move from arrival to departure.
